Garden Haul VS CSA

Memorial Day evening after the paint brushes had been washed out and the pulled pork had been savored, we took a walk through the yard.  From the kitchen window we could see some lovely red, ripe strawberries poking their noses out of the leaves.  It'd been in the 90's for a couple of days so we knew the last of the spinach would be bolting.  And, there were some herbs that had started to go to seed.  Time to take a bag with us and go shopping in the garden.  Now, that's the kind of shopping I enjoy!  The other kind, forget about it!!!

Here's a look at what we found:

In our CSA basket this week, we had greens, garlic scapes, kale and a couple of radishes plus a bag of shitakes.   They've had lots of problems with the weather.  We have also but having raised beds has certainly helped the situation.

What do I see from all of this?  A salad with lots of spinach and chard and greens and strawberries and toasted almonds and goat cheese with a chocolate balsamic vinaigrette.

A stir fry with peas and shitakes and garlic scapes and ginger.

Krispy kale leaves.

A peach salsa with lots of cilantro.

Man I wish I was more organized. It's june 1st...planting is supposed to be in by now (or so I'm told). I didn't do a CSA because I was positive I'd get a garden going. Maybe this summer I'll spend the time getting the beds ready so that next spring I just have to till and plant.

Oh, your berries look marvelous! I'm hoping to pick some up at Johnny's very soon (Nick has been asking when they will be ripe...and now I know :)).

My herb garden was doing fantastic and then an army of slugs found it. I'll be feeding them beer in the morning but most of my parsley has been beheaded.

You've got some great recipes in the works. I can't wait to see them. :)
