48 Hours and we're kind of on track...

The weather is cooperating.  I wish I could say the same for my knees and feet.  It's cold enough to use the screened porch as an auxiliary refrigerator.  My knees and feet are griping about all the standing!  The new chair to replace the one that's been covered by a tablecloth for two years is not going to make it here on time.  The carpets are clean.  Everything that got moved so the carpets could be cleaned now needs to be put back.  Desserts are done.  DUN as we say.  Meats are on track.  I'm a bit behind on the cracker spreads and the hot bites.  So, we're about 50/50 on the bad news/good news front.  That's about what's to be expected 48 hours before the party starts.  I think we're up to 165 yes's.  I've got enough here for 200 in case extras show up.  So, do you want to see what's been going on around here for the last day and a half?

We started in on the desserts

Seven desserts later, it was time to start on the appetizers.  I divide them on my spreadsheet into crackers and baguettes (stuff that gets spread,) cold bites and hot bites (they either need a crockpot, warming tray or go out hot from the oven or grill.)

We got six or seven appetizers done and called it a day.  Or, a night.  Whatever, we were tired!

Connie dug into one of his tasks this morning:  wrapping waterchestnuts with bacon.

I kept making appetizers...

Then, I got to broil all of the wrapped waterchestnuts...

And Connie dug into his next task...cleaning four beef tenderloins.

So, now, it's time to go set up the serving tables and get the house back to a semblance of order - if the carpets are dry enough.  Then, we grill beef tenderloins and pork tenderloins, bake a ham and make eight more appetizers.

You are so impressive! I love throwing big parties...but I've never thrown one quite this large. I know that everything is going to look and taste fabulous. How could it not? Thank you for sharing this with us! I hope the rest of your preparations come with ease and joy.

Most years we do an open house the Sunday before Christmas and invite about 200, but my menu is nowhere near as elaborate as yours. Good luck! I gave up on asking for RSVPs years ago.

You ALL should be jealous (lol) because this was one fabulous party! Kate was as nice as you'd expect...she welcomed this relative stranger into her home with open arms. The food was incredible...every nook and cranny had a table full of goodness! THANKS, Kate!
